The New Victory Theater is a jewel-box theater, located on legendary 42nd street, dedicated to entertaining children and their families and to develop theater audiences of the future. This is the ninth season for the New Victory Theater and they are presenting twelve grand productions. Since December 11, 1995, the New Victory Theater has presented over 100 unique works. Among the features of this season are: Sleeping Beauty, Luna/Penguin, Happy Prince and The Shape of a Girl. A special extended program is scheduled this season, all professionally produced productions at this 199-seat, black-box theater.

Brief History of the New Victory Theater

Oscar Hammerstein opened the theatre on 42nd Street in 1900 and named it the Theatre Republic. This was to become the heart of the theater district in New York. Some ninety-five years later the New Victory Theater became the first historic theater to be renovated on the block. The New 42nd Street is an independent, nonprofit organization which was founded in 1990. The New 42nd Street is responsible for seven historic theaters on 42nd Street

and also operates the New 42nd Street Studiossm. This is a 10-story building made up of rehearsal studios, offices and a 199-seat theater, The Duke.

New Victory 2004-2005 Season Productions

AGA-BOOM is an interactive comedy created and performed by three former clown stars of the Moscow Circus. Sleeping Beauty is a macabre adoption of Charles Perrault's 17th Century tale. Introdans features the Netherland's prized dance company. Typo is a slapstick modern day jester played by Montreal's Jamie Adkins. Luna/Penguin consists of storytelling and animation with a live orchestra. The Happy Prince is a retelling of Oscar Wilde's tale of Scotland's Macrobert Productions. King A is a recount of the tale of Arthur and his knights. Rain is a display of the human body portraying mother nature by Cirque Eloize. The Shape of a Girl is a one-woman play telling the story of a 14-year old high school student who was murdered in 1997 in Canada.

The New Victory Theater presents professional productions at reasonable ticket prices. Ticket prices range from $10 to $30, with discounted

rates for Member tickets. There are family workshops, student school performances in the daytime, employment for high school students and a professional theater atmosphere and experience for young and mature alike.

For the 2004-2005 season, membership is free, thanks to JPMorgan Chase, the sponsor of the New Victory Membership Program. The purchase of at least one ticket to three or more shows automatically gives a family Membership.
